Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has expressed his views on the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Steyn said that Gambhir’s aggression and his awareness of the game can prove to be very beneficial for the Indian team. He praised this appointment and has seen him as a great player and sensible coach.
Gambhir has shown great enthusiasm in this new tenure and he is credited with making the team champion after a long gap in ICC trophies after winning the T20 World Cup.

Showing special interest in Gambhir’s new role, Steyn said,
“I am a big fan of Gautam Gambhir. I like his aggression and his way of playing. He has played against some of the Indian players who can come back on their own and that is what I like. I am sure that his leadership and experience can be played with cricketers who are no longer able to play such a big role.”
He said, “Not only in India but in world cricket we need players who are a little more aggressive and play the game with a little more toughness. We all play against each other in leagues and we become quite friendly and friends. I like how aggressive he is on the field but a gentleman off the field. He is a sensible, very smart cricketer and has a great cricket brain. So I think from that point of view, he will be a great addition to them as well.”
On Gambhir joining the new coaching team, former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis also praised his acumen and passion for the game.
He said, “It is great to have Gautam in the coaching field. He has a very good cricket mindset and he brings a lot of passion to the game. I am sure he will inspire the players with a new passion and enthusiasm and will make a significant contribution to the team.”
