There has been a new twist in the race to make Gautam Gambhir the next head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
The contract of the current coach Rahul Dravid will expire after the BCCI ends this year, and on this occasion Gambhir has made his expectations clear.
According to reports, Gambhir has laid down several conditions during his interview with the BCCI.
They include the demand for the cricket operations of the team under his complete control, as well as he has also talked about selecting his assistant coach for the team.

5 conditions of Gautam for the post of Indian coach
According to the news given by Navbharat Times, Gambhir has laid down five conditions in his CAC interview before accepting the BCCI’s offer.
- The first condition is that he will have complete control over the cricket operations of the team without any interference from the board.
- Under the second condition, they will select their own assistant coach, which will include batting, fielding and bowling coaches.
- According to the third condition, they consider the 2025 Champions Trophy as the last chance for four senior (Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami) players. If they fail in the tournament, they will be dropped from the team.
- According to the fourth condition, they will have the freedom to prepare a separate team for Test cricket.
- Finally, he has also announced to prepare a roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
In this context, Gambhir has also clarified that the 2025 Champions Trophy could be an important turning point for the four senior players of the Indian team – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami.
If the performance of these players is below, they can be dropped from the team, but there is no mention of dropping the players from all three formats.
Apart from this, Gambhir has also stated that his goal is to prepare a roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which can present a stable competition plane for the team.
