In fact, recently, incidents of anti-immigrant riots have been reported in various cities of the United Kingdom.

Manchester, where the first match of the series will be played, has also not been untouched by these incidents. Sri Lankan players have raised concerns about these riots, which may affect their preparations.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo about the growing concerns over the issue, Halangoda said,

“We raised questions about security arrangements with the ECB, and they sent us comprehensive security arrangements. A security liaison officer will also be present from their side on the tour.” Assurances from ECB and UK government

While the ECB and the UK government have assured security, Sri Lankan players have also voiced their concerns. During pre-series training, players raised security issues due to the unrest.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, a player said,

“We cannot go out for dinner or any other outdoor activity. We are just spending time by staying in the hotel. No one wants to get into trouble, and no one wants to get beaten up. We have requested the board to make security arrangements for us till the main team arrives, but we have not received any response yet.”

The nine-member contingent of the Sri Lankan national cricket team, which includes seven players and two support staff, has demanded SLC to make better security arrangements in the next few days, especially when they travel to the ground near London.
