An important challenge for Rohit was his fitness, as his weight was repeatedly criticized. Recently, Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar revealed how Rohit changed his career by improving his fitness.

Nair, in a conversation with YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, said,

“When Rohit was not selected for the 2011 World Cup, I always told him ‘let’s work hard’. Because he had gained a bit of weight at that time. There was a scene, an advertisement that was aired, in which Rohit and Yuvraj [Singh] were standing, and there was a circle around Rohit’s stomach, with an arrow pointing at it. I will never forget it. We were at home, watching TV. And after seeing that scene, Rohit said I have to change this (perception).”

Nair further added, “A few days later, the World Cup squad was announced, but Rohit was not in it. From then onwards, he became known as the ‘Hitman’ and his career took a new direction.”

Rohit Sharma himself said, “‘I will do whatever you say, but after the IPL is over, people should say that he is not the same Rohit Sharma. He is someone else.'”
