Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy role could also have an impact on his batting. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri, who has deep experience in cricket coaching and player management, has given important advice to Suryakumar.
Shastri said the captain should understand the strengths and limitations of his team’s bowlers.
On the ICC Review Show, Shastri said,
“One thing that he (Suryakumar) has to learn from his team is what are the strengths of their bowlers and what are the limitations. I never say a bowler has a weakness, I say there are boundaries and then there is strength. And then focus on the right things and set the field accordingly. I think that’s what they need to learn.”
“We know he is very smart… He is currently one of the best T20 players in the world. He’s a match-winner in his own right, stepping up to his strengths in the team day in and day out in this format of the game, so I think it’s not a bad idea at all. I think it [captaincy style] will match his personality, his way of playing to a great extent. He will think very fast and the fact that he knows all these players, even the senior players, I think he will be in a great position to handle the team.”
