Cricket, a game that is not only played on a field, but also has a huge data chain hidden behind it. By analyzing this data, the rules of the game can be improved, and to know what went wrong in particular games so that they can be improved.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is now examining the data of previously canceled games through this analysis, to determine how best to take action in the upcoming cricket matches.
Actually, there have been growing apprehensions over the condition of the pitches during the T20 World Cup matches held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The unpredictable bounce and double pace of the pitch for bowlers has made it difficult for the players to play safely.
Despite this, there are no plans to shift the remaining matches from the Nassau County-based stadium to any other venue. This controversial situation has become a topic of discussion in the cricket world.
Untested drop-in pitches are causing problems to various teams in the game. South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 77 runs, while India defeated Ireland by 96 runs. This has raised questions about the safety of the players and their performance on the field.
The Indian team has planned to play its second match against Pakistan in New York, but its concerns have been raised about the condition of the pitches. The International Cricket Council is also analysing data from previous games to decide how to respond.
According to reports, problems have also arisen with the practice facilities at the nearby Cantiague Park.
On the condition of the pitches during the matches, a BBC report said,
“India have privately expressed their unhappiness at the unpredictable bounce and dual-pace nature of the pitch and have expressed concerns about the safety of their batsmen.”
The BBC report further said, “It is understood that an unused pitch has been chosen for the India v Pakistan match, although this decision is subject to change depending on the condition of other pitches before the match.”
The pop-up venue built in New York has a total of 10 Tahoma grass pitches, which were grown in Australia. Australian curator Damien Hough was appointed to prepare the pitches. However, no concrete decision has been taken yet on the condition of the pitch.
Players are finding a slow outfield due to the sand-based nature and the difference in the square boundaries. Apart from this, injuries to players are also hampering the game.
According to reports
“A clear diagnosis of the problems has not yet been made. Indian fans were excited to score runs at one point during Ireland’s eight-wicket win, as they hoped that the duration of the game would be extended so that they could see more of their team players batting in the second innings.”
To get out of this controversy, the Cricket Council now needs to act proactively so that the players can get a way to play in a safe and excited environment.
