The Pakistan cricket team has been going through a tough phase in recent times. The condition of the team has been pathetic since the disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023.
The controversies over the captaincy after being eliminated from the group stage have further complicated the situation. From Babar Azam to Shaheen Afridi, there have been many turns in terms of captaincy, but the team’s performance has remained consistently poor.
Pakistan’s performance in the recent T20 World Cup 2024 was also contrary to expectations. The defeats against the United States and India further increased the team’s difficulties. In this tournament, Pakistan could not even reach the Super 8 stage, which was a big setback.
Amidst all this, Pakistan’s young fast bowler Naseem Shah has spoken openly on the team’s struggle.
Talking to reporters, Naseem Shah said,
“Our comeback was not good, and we cannot deny that we have Did not play good cricket. Criticism is part of it, and we have to endure it until things get better. This is a good opportunity to come back, play better and show ourselves as a team. That’s what I am hoping for.”
The upcoming Test series against Bangladesh will be a momentous occasion for Pakistan. All eyes will be on Naseem Shah’s performance in the two Test matches to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi later this month.
Naseem Shah said about his return to Test cricket,
“I have not played red-ball cricket for thirteen months; it is not easy to play after a long time. International cricket has its own pressure; however, we are working hard for it.”
He further said, “I personally know that it is not easy to play international matches after a long time. I am gradually increasing the bowling load after returning from injury.”
Naseem Shah will play for Pakistan Shaheens in the upcoming four-day match, which will be held at the Islamabad Club from August 13 to August 16. After this match, Naseem Shah and other potential players will join the senior team.
The return of Naseem Shah and preparations for the upcoming Test series have once again revived the hopes of Pakistan cricket.
It will be interesting to see how the young fast bowler and his team accept this challenge and what kind of performance they put up on the cricket field.
