The first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan. When the crowd chanted Babar Azam’s support during the match, Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood faced criticism.
Babar Azam had stepped down from the captaincy after the World Cup 2023, and Shan Masood was made the Test captain. Under Masood’s captaincy, Pakistan lost the three-match series against Australia.
Despite this, the Pakistan Cricket Board retained Masood as Test captain while handing over the limited-overs captaincy to Babar.
‘Hamara kaptaan kaisa ho, Babar Azam jaisa ho’
However, on Friday, when chants of ‘how is our captain, how is Babar Azam’ started echoing in the stadium in the second session of the match, the fans made it clear that they want to see Babar as the Test captain. This situation coincides with the controversy that erupted after Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma in IPL 2024.
Talking about the match situation, Pakistan made a great comeback after getting out at 16/3 on the first day and put up a score of 448/6. Mohammad Rizwan and vice-captain Saud Shakeel also scored centuries. Rizwan scored 171 runs and Shakeel scored 141 runs.
However, Pakistan’s bowling unit struggled to contain the Bangladeshi batsmen in the second innings, and by the end of the third day’s play, Bangladesh’s score was 316/5.
Coach Azhar Mahmood expressed disappointment over the bowling, saying the team bowled indisciplined and did not use the pitch properly.
What remains to be seen is how Pakistan bounce back in the match under the leadership of their captain Masood.
